One of the most atmospheric places to eat is Aqua Chill Seafood Bar & Restaurant. With its open terrace, driftwood decor, and fresh dishes, it’s the ideal place for a leisurely lunch. Expect grilled octopus, cataplana, and seafood rice cooked the Algarvian way. Ilha Deserta — Secluded, Scenic, and Home to Iconic Estaminé
Then there is Ilha Deserta, also known as Barreta, the most remote and untouched of all Ria Formosa’s islands. With no permanent inhabitants, no roads, and miles of golden sand, it feels like an island at the edge of the world. Set in the sands, Estaminé is the island’s only building, an eco-designed restaurant powered by solar energy, with water desalinated on-site. Its wide windows open directly to the Atlantic, so dining here feels like you’re floating between the ocean and sky.
The menu celebrates authentic Algarvian seafood: oysters from the lagoon, grilled sea bass, garlic prawns, and tender cuttlefish. Make sure to top it all off with a glass of their famous sangria!
