Possibly the most iconic beach in the Algarve is Marinha Beach in Lagoa. Frequently ranked as one of the best beaches in Portugal, Europe, and even the world, Praia da Marinha is a must-see in the Algarve.
Another that shouldn’t be missed is Praia da Falésia. Enclosed by red cliffs, this almost 6-kilometre beach is as serene as it is expansive. In 2024, it was named the Best of the Best Beaches as part of TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards.

While in Faro, you have to explore the Ria Formosa. This natural haven is like a puzzle made up of lagoons, marshes, and islands, creating a pristine and biodiverse ecosystem. It’s particularly attractive to birdlife, making it a prime spot for birdwatching in the Algarve.

6. Explore the Caves of Algar Seco

At the northern end of Ria Formosa is Tavira, regarded as one of the most charming towns in the Algarve. One of its main attractions is the Castelo de Tavira, a castle which dates back centuries. While now largely in ruins, you can visit for free and climb to the top for panoramic views.

8. Stroll Along Alvor Boardwalk
Just outside the bustling city of Lagos, the small town of Alvor provides an authentic experience of a former fishing village. Along the Alvor Boardwalk, you’ll pass by the huts of fishermen before walking through the stunning estuary. You can spot a range of birdlife here, as well as people fishing for shellfish. Back in town, treat yourself to some fresh seafood!
9. Climb Monte Foia
If you’re looking for the best views in the Algarve, you’re sure to find them from the top of Monte Foia. As the highest peak in the region at over 900 metres, it can be a challenge to summit — but the rewards are worth it. You’ll be treated to panoramic vistas, with views as far out to sea. 10. Visit Ponta da Piedade
One of the Algarve’s most famous tourist attractions, Ponta da Piedade is a dramatic headland consisting of spectacular rock formations. Rising from the sea, this collection of natural sculptures is a sight to behold. You can walk along the footpaths and stairs leading to coves and viewpoints.
